Victoria has unveiled its $15 million rebate and is primed and ready to bring global game development, post-production, animation, and visual effects to Victoria upon the resumption of global screen production.
VicScreen’s Victorian Digital Screen Rebate (VDSR) offers a globally competitive rebate scheme to attract the best projects and production companies to the state.
Victoria is a screen powerhouse and home to some of the world’s leading post-production, visual effects, digital games and animation companies including Wētā FX (Avatar: The Way of Water), Framestore (Thor: Love and Thunder), Soundfirm (Shantaram) and Sledgehammer Games (Call of Duty).
With global recognition of the Australian Government’s Digital Games Tax Offset and Post, Digital, and Visual Effects Offset, the VDSR can be stacked with Federal Offsets and will further bolster Victoria’s ability to compete on the world stage. VDSR grants can also be combined with the Victorian Screen Incentive.
The VDSR solidifies Victoria’s position as a hub for screen innovation and technology, ready to welcome international screen projects when global production ramps up again. Qualifying expenditure under the VDSR can generate a rebate of up to 10 per cent for international projects.
This substantial rebate program dovetails recent infrastructure development in Victoria’s screen industry, including the establishment of the world’s largest virtual production stage at Docklands Studios Melbourne.
Caroline Pitcher, CEO of VicScreen, emphasized Victoria’s leading position for digital games, VFX, animation, and post-production, stating, “We look forward to further strengthening Victoria’s capability in the development of original digital screen content and in high-end service production. This program will advance the skills and careers of our creative and technical talent and provide valuable employment opportunities for Victorians.”
The Victorian Digital Screen Rebate is now open for applications.
