The Australian influence goes deep into the production of Alien: Covenant that premieres in the US on May 19.
“This has been a very technical film that has manifested in: huge sets, [special and visual] effects, costumes, makeup, models, there are huge spaces across Fox Studios filled with Australian artists,” said Producer Mark Huffam.
The hyper-real aesthetic of the Alien universe juxtaposes a fetid, biomechanical gothic horror with a hi-tech but lived-in world of human space travel. Moreover, Alien: Covenant is going to extend that visual texture to include an entirely new planet discovered by the crew of the colony ship Covenant, complete with its own unique architectural oddities and quota of icky secrets.
The technically challenging film was supported throughout its production by the Australian Federal Government through the Department of Communications and the Arts and the NSW government, using world-class facilities at Fox Studios Australia and local crews to achieve the director’s ambitious vision.
