Adam Elliot’s stunningly emotional and technically brilliant claymation feature Memoir of a Snail has touched the hearts of international audiences. Soundfirm is very proud to have collaborated on this wonderful film, which chronicles the bittersweet memoir of the melancholic snail enthusiast, Grace Pudel. Elliot’s film is unequivocally a love letter to Australia, in its tragic yet beautiful celebration of overcoming adversity and finding happiness within oneself.
Having set up the colour pipeline during pre-production and managed dailies throughout the 33-week shoot, Soundfirm supported the final phase of this eight-year-long endeavour by providing a complete post-production package of picture, sound, and VFX. This enabled a highly collaborative and artistically immersive post-production environment.
“Our post was spread out over almost seven months, and Soundfirm became our second home; they fed us, held our hands, and kept us mentally nourished while their team chiselled away at the many and complex post duties that needed to be done.”

“This is the first film I have made where the entire post pipeline was under one roof. Having a one-stop shop for everything meant I never had to waste time leaving the building. If a problem arose, we could swiftly and easily solve it.”
— Adam Elliot, Writer-Director, Memoir of a Snail
The post-production process required a complex collaboration of picture, sound, and VFX to bring Grace’s world to life. Every single frame was carefully assessed by the meticulous hands of the VFX and colour teams. Soundfirm’s in-house re-recording mixer, David Williams, crafted a delicate and methodical sound design that breathes life into this fascinating and unique world. Having the entire post-production process within a single facility fostered a rich collaborative space and created more creative opportunities throughout the filmmaking process.

After a hugely successful run as the 2024 Melbourne International Film Festival headliner, Memoir of a Snail has gone on to achieve tremendous critical success. With an abundance of nominations and awards—including Best Film at the London Film Festival (competing against live-action films) and the Grand Prize (Cristal) at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival—the film has garnered widespread acclaim. The claymation feature received 11 nominations at the 2025 AACTA Awards, including Best Film and Best Sound in Film. Its recent nominations for Best Motion Picture – Animated at the 2025 Golden Globes and Best Animated Feature Film at the 2025 Academy Awards have cemented the film’s critical global success and ensured its longevity.
Adam Elliot’s Memoir of a Snail truly takes audiences on a ‘four seasons in one day’ emotional journey. Viewers laugh, cry, gasp, and cheer as they watch these characters navigate their world.
