Queensland has delivered its share of compelling regional mysteries in recent years and Black Snow is no exception. The critically acclaimed crime series returns for a dramatic new season, once again putting Australia’s sunshine state in the spotlight.

Travis Fimmel (Boy Swallows Universe) makes his directorial debut in the final episode and reprises his role as Detective Cormack, tackling two missing persons cases—the disappearance of Zoe Jacobs (Jana McKinnon) and a personal quest to find his younger brother. Fimmel is joined by new cast members Jana McKinnon (Bad Behaviour), Megan Smart (Class of ‘07), Alana Mansour (Erotic Stories), Dan Spielman (Bad Behaviour, The Newsreader), Victoria Haralabidou (The Tourist) and Kat Stewart (Offspring).

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Glass House Mountains the six-part series takes full advantage of South East Queensland’s diverse environments, with filming  on the Sunshine and Gold Coasts. Black Snow Season 2 reveals the Sunshine Coast’s natural beauty extending far beyond its famed beaches, showcasing the region as a premier screen destination.

Queensland’s Glasshouse Mountains set the background for Black Snow Season 2 | Made in Queensland

Located just 50 minutes from the major city of Brisbane, the region offers a rich mix of urban, rural and natural settings, offering a variety of powerful visual elements. Black Snow Season 2 utilised the hinterland’s dramatic volcanic peaks, rugged terrain, lush greenery and sweeping panoramic views to create a sense of isolation and cinematic depth, perfectly complementing the series’ gripping narrative.

When Goalpost Pictures’ Executive Producer Rosemary Blight first visited the Sunshine Coast’s hinterland, she knew they had found the heart of the story within the region which is part of Screen Queensland’s Film Friendly Council network.

“Filming in Queensland is second to none. The crews are out of this world. They deliver quality pictures, they work incredibly hard for you, and they do it with this grace and professionalism. Screen Queensland enabled us to make this show. Without them we couldn’t have done it and we’ll be forever grateful for that.”
