Will Gluck’s Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, the sequel to the successful Peter Rabbit ($US351.3 million worldwide), opened in cinemas in the USA and China this month.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway was released on 2,572 theatres in the USA on June 11 and posted a US$10.4 million opening weekend.

In China, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway bounced to second in its opening weekend, and grossed a US$969,000 (RMB6.2 million) on opening day Friday and managed to pull in $7.8 million from 10,500 screens over the three-day holiday weekend, according to data from ticketing agency Maoyan. Maoyan currently predicts the film will gross a total of US$18.9 million in the territory.

Filmed in NSW, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway is a testament to the world-class live action, VFX and animation talent in NSW and Animal Logic’s strong partnership with Sony Pictures.

The production is funded by Sony Pictures Entertainment, with the support of the Australian Federal Government through the Producer Offset, and Screen NSW’s Made in NSW fund and its Post, Digital & Visual Effects (PDV) fund.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway was theatrically released in Australia on March 25, 2021, and in the United Kingdom on May 17.

Made in NSW, the NSW Government’s $175 million fund over five years, is managed by Screen NSW to attract international film and television production to the state and support major new Australian TV drama and feature films. NSW’s Post, Digital & Visual Effects (PDV) fund offers a 10% rebate of qualifying expenditure on work carried out in NSW.
