Shining a spotlight on NSW’s picture-perfect Northern Rivers Region this month, is the announcement that Nine Perfect Strangers, which filmed in the region in 2020, will premiere on 18 August 2021.

Nine strangers from the city gather for a 10-day retreat at Tranquillum House, a health and wellness resort which promises to transform and heal the guests who stay there. However, the resort is not what it seems to be, and the guests are about to discover many secrets about each other and the resort’s host, Masha.

The eight-part series with a star-studded cast including Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy, is based on the novel of the same name, penned by the Australian author of Big Little Lies, Liane Moriarty.

The Northern Rivers region in NSW is not only beautiful, but is fast becoming a major filming centre in Australia. The region served as a magnificent setting for the series and gave the producers a gateway into Australia’s incredible talent pool across all departments, particularly casting, demonstrated by the inclusion of several Australians in the series, including Samara Weaving, Zoe Terakes and Asher Keddie.

Nine Perfect Strangers was produced by Kidman’s Blossom Films and Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Jodi Matterson’s Made Up Stories and was directed by Jonathan Levine. David E. Kelly and John Henry Butterworth helmed the writing team, with Australian Samantha Strauss joining them.

Nine Perfect Strangers will premiere on Hulu in the US on the 18 August 2021 and on Amazon Prime Video in Australia and New Zealand on 20 August 2021. It will air in other territories later in the year.
