One of the world’s most in-demand actors, Nicole Kidman was back in Sydney in July to film her starring role as part of a new anthology-series, Roar.
The eight-part Apple TV+ series is based on Cecelia Ahern’s popular collection of 30 short stories, and will feature eight, half-hour episodes, each told from a female point of view as a stand-alone story.
In addition to starring, Kidman is executive producing with Per Saari via Blossom Films. Emmy Award-winning producer Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Allie Goss are executive producing on behalf of Made Up Stories.
In 2020, Kidman filmed Nine Perfect Strangers in NSW’s picture-perfect Northern Rivers Region. Nine Perfect Strangers premieres on Hulu in the US on the 18 August 2021 and on Amazon Prime Video in Australia and New Zealand on 20 August 2021. It will air in other territories later in the year.
In addition to Roar and Nine Perfect Strangers, a steady stream of both local and international productions have filmed in NSW over the last year. This includes 11 major productions supported by the NSW Government’s Made in NSW fund. Supported productions include Arclight Films and Russell Crowe’s Poker Face, Netflix’s Pieces of Her with Toni Colette, Made Up Stories’ Wolf Like Me with Josh Gad and Isla Fisher, Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder with Chris Hemsworth, George Miller’s 3000 Years of Longing with Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton, Netflix’s Interceptor with Elsa Pataky, and Goalpost Picture’s Carmen with Paul Mescal and Rossy de Palma.
In light of ongoing public health concerns over COVID-19, the NSW Government continues to work closely with the sector to ensure that production safely continues in NSW, while safeguarding the NSW community, and keeping the show going.
Ausfilm Member Cutting Edge provided DIT support and The Rebel Fleet provided Dailies services for Roar.
