Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Tyler Mitchell have once again chosen Melbourne as the host city for Impact Australia, their innovative talent accelerator program for screenwriters.
Impact is returning to Melbourne – the home of many world-class writers – in September 2021 to find the next generation of Australian screenwriters, following the success of last year’s inaugural program.
“Impact Australia far exceeded our expectations in terms of the number and quality of applications. The attendance at our Pitch Day and interest in the projects from global buyers and producers attest to the level of talent of the writers, and the quality of their projects.” said Impact CEO Tyler Mitchell.
“It confirmed what we have long suspected and are excited to continue fostering – that Australia is full of talented screenwriters with stories that resonate with audiences everywhere.”

Academy Award®-nominated writer Jan Sardi (Shine) and acclaimed screenwriter Andrew Knight (Hacksaw Ridge) have long called Melbourne home, along with writer/directors Tony Ayres (Clickbait), Robert Connolly (The Dry), Tony Briggs (The Sapphires) and Elise McCredie (Ride Like a Girl).
Melbourne-born writers Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl) and Shaun Grant (True History of the Kelly Gang) were two of the world-class screen and television writers who mentored the 14 Australian writers who took part in the inaugural Impact Australia program in 2020.
Presented by Impact and Gentle Giant Media Group, with support from Screen Australia and Film Victoria, the highly coveted eight-week mentorship program will be held at the Victorian College of the Arts, which counts Tony McNamara, writer of The Favourite, among its esteemed alumni.
