Yet another Jungle Entertainment series is heading to the U.S. with critically acclaimed drama series Wakefield being picked up by Showtime.
Originally commissioned by the ABC in Australia, and distributed by BBC Studios, the series explores the fine line between sanity and madness through the perspectives of staff and patients at a psychiatric facility.
“To see Wakefield resonate so well with Australian audiences is fantastic – and Americans are at least as mad as us – so I’m thrilled Showtime is going to show it to them.”
Kristen Dunphy, Creator of Wakefield, whose personal experiences with mental illness inspired the show.
The deal marks the fourth Jungle Entertainment series to air in the U.S. in 2021. These include the fourth series of No Activity (Paramount Plus), the third series of Mr. Inbetween (FX) and the second season of The Moodys (Fox). Jungle Entertainment partner Trent O’Donnell has also been busy in the U.S. in 2021 as Director and Executive Producer of No Activity (Paramount Plus), Guilty Party (Paramount Plus) and Ghosts (CBS).
Jungle has had significant success in format sales in 2021. No Activity is now currently one of the highest-selling formats of the year having been remade in the U.S., Holland, Germany, Denmark and Dubai with another four foreign remakes soon to be announced.
A new member of Ausfilm, Jungle has moved into production services offering end-to-end support for international partners in producing world-class content anywhere in Australia.
