The Post Lounge and Resin are currently completing the picture post and visual effects on broadcast series Reef Break for ABC Studios International and France’s M6.
The series will soon wrap filming after five months based at the Gold Coast’s Village Roadshow Studios – utilising its sound stages as well as various locations around South-East Queensland.
In a coup for the local industry, the US series is also completing post-production in the state including all editorial, picture post, sound, VFX and delivery – a positive step for incentivised international productions that traditionally shoot on location in Australia but in most instances perform limited post on our shores.
Reef Break is a sexy, action-packed drama starring Poppy Montgomery as Cat Chambers, a thief-turned-fixer for the governor of a stunning and seductive Pacific Island paradise. Each episode will be a character-driven cocktail of crime, surf, sex and sunshine, and for Cat, the lines between work and play have never been blurrier.
The project is one of the first collaborations between The Post Lounge and Resin who recently began a partnership across their Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide studios and sees the companies work side-by-side to create a one stop shop for post and VFX.
Both The Post Lounge’s CEO, Kurt Royan and Resin Founder Lincoln Wogan welcome more international productions to post via the two companies, “It’s been great to work alongside ABC Studios International all the way through from pre-production to delivery. We’re really proud of the final product on screen and look forward to our partnership working on more big, international series like Reef Break.”
The Post Lounge is based in both Brisbane and Melbourne and is currently completing post on domestic productions Black Water Abyss, Never Too Late and feature documentary The Leunig Fragments. Resin, known for their VFX work on series Tidelands and Electric Dreams as well as feature films Storm Boy and Red Dog, have expanded from their original Adelaide headquarters to now include both Brisbane and Melbourne. Supported by the Screen Queensland PDV incentive the partnership also recently began work on large-scale Singaporean feature Heavens: The Boy And His Robot.
Reef Break is produced by ABC Studios International, a division of Disney Television Studios for the ABC Network in the US and M6 in France. It was attracted to Queensland through incentives from the Federal Government as well as the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland. It will air on ABC in the US on 20 June 2019 and stream on Hulu from June 21.
