Since the Australian Government’s introduction of the Location Incentive grant, Australia has secured 41 international film and television productions to shoot throughout Australia. These are listed below.

Why all the international productions?

The Location Incentive grant is a merit-assessed grant, where funding may be offered up to 13.5% of a project’s Qualifying Australian Production Expenditure. This grant complements and is in addition to, the Government’s existing 16.5% Location Offset tax rebate.

The Location Incentive grant total is AU$540 million for eligible projects commencing from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2027. Eligibility here.

To date, $433 million has been committed under the Australian Government’s Location Incentive, to attract 41 international productions to Australia. This will generate more than AU$3.28 billion in private investment, providing more than 22,200 employment opportunities for local cast and crew, and creating work for over 23,500 businesses that support these big productions.

Find a full list of international productions attracted to Australia since 1999 in Ausfilm’s Filmography here.

How Australian state governments can support production

Australian State Governments also play a vital role in helping to attract these productions by providing screen tax rebates or grants to eligible international film and television projects. Indeed this is part of the eligibility criteria when applying for the Location Incentive grant, that state government support must be secured before applying for the Location Incentive grant.
