It’s a sunny, sunny day in Queensland as another major international production is secured. Co-produced by Amazon Studios and ABC Signature, part of Disney Television Studios, The Wilds Season 2 is set to film primarily on the Gold Coast from April 2021.
Supported with a AU$9.6m grant from the AU$400 million boost to the Location Incentive to create a pipeline of international productions, and thanks to the Queensland Government’s Production Attraction Strategy, the second season of the hit series The Wilds will film in Queensland.
Starring Rachel Griffiths, Mia Healey and Shannon Berry, The Wilds is centred around a group of teenagers who planned a weekend empowerment retreat, only to be left stranded on a deserted island. The first season was filmed in New Zealand.
The production is expected to bring investment of more than AU$73 million to the Australian economy, and to create more than 270 jobs for cast and crew. It is also expected to inject AU$28 million into Queensland and create 150 jobs for local crew.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity not only for Queensland to showcase its beautiful locations and state-of-the-art studio facilities, but also to create a significant number of jobs for Australian crew and work for the incredibly talented creative and technical Australian businesses that are housed in Queensland.”
Kate Marks, CEO, Ausfilm
This is the eleventh international production announced to film in Australia since the increase to the Location Incentive grant announced in July 2020.
“International producers, directors and showrunners are here and getting to know us well, to experience the calibre of our crews and the great diversity of our locations first-hand, in a way that bodes well for the long-term growth of our local industry.”
Kylie Munnich, CEO, Screen Queensland
